Outside the Classroom

Whereas much of the learning within economics classes is focused on theoretical models and analytical thinking skills, experiences outside the classroom provide opportunities to apply economic concepts to "real world" issues and to extend students' knowledge and understanding. The Economics Department encourages majors to pursue independent research, study abroad, and internships as a complement to their coursework. The Economics Department also supports a student-run organization, the Economics Association of Maryland in various activities that broaden students' exposure to economics as applied in "the real world".

Some students find that they want additional help outside the classroom to succeed in their courses. Information about Tutoring options are available here.
