General Information on Email

The Economics Department has its own email server, which runs Novell's GroupWise email server software. Email can be accessed via a GroupWise client or via the web by linking to http://webmail.econ.umd.edu. Additionally, the email server can be accessed via IMAP compliant email clients. All faculty, staff, and graduate students are assigned an email account upon joining the Department by the Windows/Novell network administrator.

The official domain name for the Economics Department server is @econ.umd.edu but it accepts emails to both @econ.bsos.umd.edu and @econ.umd.edu.

The GroupWise email server can be accessed from any computer anywhere via one of the above described methods, given the computer is connected to the Internet. In addition to email, GroupWise also provides the functionality of a personal information manager, including calendar functionality.

The University also maintains a mail server for all of its students and employees. This server imposes more restrictions on users. For more details, see mail.umd.edu.
