Biography
Jeanne Lafortune is a recent graduate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where she obtained her PhD in economics in June 2008. She had previously obtained a BA in economics from McGill University in 2002 and an MA in economics from the University of Toronto in 2003. Her primary fields of interest are labor and development economics, with a particular interest in family economics. Her research has looked at the relationship between marriage market conditions and human capital accumulation, the role of caste in the Indian marriage market, and the effect of delaying marriage age. She is also currently working on the effect of migration in early 20th century United States. She is a faculty associate of the Maryland Population Research Center.
